The blizzard that invades the mountain leads up to the many deaths

The next factor in the deceiver archetype is death and horrible fate. Although the blizzard initially does not cause any deaths, it starts to show Everest's true character. Jon is descending the mountain to get to camp four (South Col) (shown on the left) when the blizzard starts. This only makes it harder and more dangerous for Jon on his descent. When he reaches the camp he rests in his tent assuming that everything is fine, which he figures out later that "nineteen men and women were stranded up on the mountain by the storm, caught in a desperate struggle for their lives" (Krakauer 423). This shows Everest starting to reveal its true character before the deaths that are about to follow.
